A lovely day in Boone!

Hello!

A nice and easy day, for sure.  We went down around 9 am and found a very acceptable breakfast in the hotel’s lobby.  Turns out, tomorrow is the first home football game for Appalachian State, and it’s against Old Dominion.  Lots of folks in town for it, and it seems like tail-gating may even be starting today.  We decided to see if we could find some sparkling water, and went first to Walmart.  They had two kinds sparkling lemon waters, and it’s not too bad!
Me and a "friend" in downtown Boone!

Very cute place!
To be honest, the traffic around here is incredibly intense!  There are long lines everywhere.  Linda says that it snows here, and there are local ski resorts – whew!  So … we then headed to “downtown” Boone on Main Street.  We parked the car and walked up and down in both directions.  There are some really cute shops here, and I particularly liked the “Farmer’s Shoppe” which I think is a group of artists who have banded together to display their wares.  I found a really lovely leather purse for a very good price, as well as some other little things.  Also found a T-shirt store, so that I now have an “unofficial” Appalachia Football shirt; great fun!

We were meeting Linda at 1 o’clock (she was able to take off half a day!) so we fought the traffic to Arby’s for sandwiches, and then made it to Michael and Nancy’s right about on time.
Lots to look at!

Boone Community Center
Sat and talked for a while, and they have invited us back to dinner tonight – pork roast – and we’re bringing the wine.  Michael suggested that we might want to head to Blowing Rock, which – truly – is a small town about five miles from Boone.  Lovely drive there, and again, a really charming little place.  We walked through some shops, and then sat on a front porch of one of the shops.
Cute shop in Blowing Rock!

Beautiful wall mural
R had a glass of beer (!), Linda had a glass of Pinot Grigio, and I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.  Nice easy way to spend time!  Decided that we should probably get a nap in somewhere, so dropped Linda off and back to the hotel for an hour or so down time.  Up now, and I’m blogging, R is reading and napping.

I’m thinking that we may post this now and then put photos and description of dinner tonight on tomorrow’s blog, as we want to get up and out by 7 am to get to Lawrenceville, GA in time for lunch!
More later!
Nice place to relax!

Stunning roses!
